Mind&Melody, a 501(c)(3) organization, transforms lives through the love of music and community, one mind at a time. We bring music programs to healthcare facilities and homes.
The following responses will be considered in judging for a SCORE Award.
How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?
Our SCORE mentor, John, spent 3+ hours with us the first time we met, explaining each step we needed to establish ourselves, from applying for our 501(c)(3) to forming our board of directors. He didn't judge us for our age or lack of experience; he guided us in a reassuring and supportive manor. Years later he continues to be a dedicated mentor. John introduced to us leaders around the community and helped us grow our business from two unpaid workers to a team of over 150 employees, contractors and volunteers helping thousands across Florida. We have also used the tools available by SCORE like "How to Start a Nonprofit", Sales Training workshops, etc. These resources and John were invaluable to us when we were starting out with no money.
Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.
When we started our program in 2014 we had one healthcare facility and 5 volunteers. In just three short years we have more than tripled our capacity and are now operating in over 30 healthcare facilities and homes across Florida from Miami to Tallahassee. We strive to create a self-sustaining organization with opportunities for growth. Our fee-for-service revenue model allows our organization to be funded by earned revenue, grants and donations. In the next year, we will continue to expand across Florida by focusing on partnering with long term care facilities on a corporate level, expanding our programs to mental health centers, kids with autism, and private in-home sessions.
