Worcester Center for Expressive Therapies
We are an expressive therapy clinic offering music therapy, art therapy, counseling, and speech and language pathology to individuals from all walks of life. All our clinical work is research-based.
The following responses will be considered in judging for a SCORE Award.
How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?
When we embarked on our journey to open a clinic we were passionate and knowledgeable about helping people. We were not so experienced in business law, employment regulations and accounting. Our mentor, Bob, not only provided hands-on assistance with all of these aspects of our clinic, he provided us with numerous resources to help us grow and learn within the fast pace of the healthcare environment. He was patient, well informed and taught us how to navigate our books with ease. We learned so much in a short amount of time and that was imperative to our growth as a successful clinic in Massachusetts.
Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.
Our clinic offers the unique ability to accept private insurance for our services. Over the last year with the help of SCORE we've launched; a NICU Music Therapy Program within UMASS Memorial Hospital, three eldercare music therapy programs, expanded our day habilitation and day health programs for adults with disabilities, provide 24 therapeutic groups within our community and hosted the first ever Real Deal Music Festival, a interactive music and art event that is tailored for individuals of all abilities. The festival had 450 attendees in its first year. We are moving our clinic in August to expand our services and hope to reach more clients within our new state of the art facility.
