Drew’s Honeybees harvests the bounty of the honeybee to craft natural, organic skincare products, offering a natural alternative with ingredients sourced from sustainable farms and ethical farmers.

What makes your business one of the best small businesses in your community?

The honeybee currently suffers from a perfect storm of parasites, pesticides, and pathogens, leaving honeybees feebly able to pollinate many of our crops — all the best food too: fruits, veggies, nuts, and legumes! An unsustainable percentage of honeybee colonies perish annually. Drew’s Honeybees will be at the forefront of efforts to reverse this decline through research, advocacy, and to connect the customer to our work for a honeybee and world where both can thrive. At Drew’s Honeybees, we harvest the bounty of the honeybee to craft uncommonly fine, organic skincare products, offering a natural alternative with ingredients sourced from sustainable farms and ethical farmers. As dedicated beekeepers, we also seek to benefit the honeybee and create a world in which it can thrive. We dedicate 20% of our profits to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station’s groundbreaking work breeding heartier honeybees and expend much time, thought, and sweat supporting their research.

How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?

Working with SCORE has been transformative. Without SCORE, I would have lacked the know-how, support, and grit to leave unfulfilling employment to strive and make my vision of a kinder business, responsibly harvesting the bounty of nature, giving back, and doing no harm, into a reality. My advisors alerted me to solutions of which I was unaware, provided timely feedback and counsel, focused my thinking, and have kept me adhering to responsible business practices. Critically, my advisors have helped focus my targeting on outlets most likely to promote the brand image we seek while accessing wide, profitable, distribution.

Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.

My business has created a brand that connects the customer to our work for honeybee and world where both can thrive. Increasingly discerning customers want more than safe, efficacious skincare, they want to connect to a meaningful cause. We are making promising contacts with regional and even national retailer and distributors who are interested in our ethic of valuing all stakeholders- customers, employees, farmer, the earth, and future generations. This obsessive insistence on quality, sustainability and authenticity has created natural, organic skincare products that are as efficacious as they are exciting to the senses.
