We create and operate affordable supportive housing for the substance abuse/mental health populations in Northern Nevada, primarily in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Fallon and Elko.
What makes your business one of the best small businesses in your community?
Since our inception in Northern Nevada in January 2017, we have created 10 locations, each organized to bring stability to the local populations of homeless, substance user, or mental health client. By creating long-term affordable supportive housing with wrap around services, we can keep the individual engaged enough, thru our multiple programs, to start down a path to a different future. Our target populations, in general are in desperate need of guidance.
Since I was first introduced to SCORE in 2014, in No. Calif., I have become an advocate for using a mentoring system to help progress thru life. We model our concept after this idea, using success guides, to create individualized programs, and to then “guide the way”. These programs might include basic nutritional counseling, emotional therapies, financial literacy classes, budgeting and general life skills that are so often forgotten, by the populations we serve.
We believe in hand-ups not hand-outs.

How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?
I was introduced to SCORE mentorship in 2013 in CA, when I started writing my business plan. With the help of a mentor, my plan was well written. When I took my company to So Nevada, I started working with SCORE Mentor Sam Schall As my business was already operational, we worked on strategy to grow.
In Jan 2017, I founded my current company in N Nevada. I requested a mentor here and have been working with John Strom since. We started off by setting clear goals of what I would like to accomplish using a mentor. Each week we leave our meeting with a clear action plan. We also access other mentors when needed.
The dedication my mentor has to seeing us succeed helps us stay a solid course.
Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.
We have been most successful in the following areas
Streamlining operations by identifying staff strengths and weakness, and then placing staff in positions where they will flourish
Researching, identifying and developing our client referral network to ensure ongoing admissions
Creating a product that is sought after by local, state and national contracts for housing
Using social media and word of mouth to increase traffic to our website and ultimately into our housing
Creating a product and brand that is recognized as a leader throughout our field
We are currently in motion to expand into multiple states, with the goal for the year to have doubled our current number of homes from 10 to 20
