The Makers Market and Workshops
We are a 20 seat DIY workshop with farmhouse feel. We don't teach our guests how to craft, we teach them how to DIY and make a personalized charming piece of home decor.
The following responses will be considered in judging for a SCORE Award.
How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?
From the beginning Jon was very supportive, encouraging and patient. We met with him every week for about 5 months, each time he would give us homework to do. Whether it was regarding taxes, insurance, our lease, customers, he helped us with every question we could think of. Neither one of us had owned a business before, we had no idea where to start. He always pointed us in the right directions of where to find answers. We've been opened for over a year now; he still pops in every month, sends us emails regarding workshops or seminars we should attend, puts us into contact with other business professionals and roots for us all the time!
Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.
From the very beginning we started with full workshops; 24 seats, 6 nights a week for adults. We had so much interest from our guests to bring children, and have daytime classes that we had to add those into our schedule. We started out with 3 part time employees, and now have 9! The support from our community has been unbelievable and outstanding. We have people that drive over an hour to attend one of our workshops.
We also strongly believe in giving back to our community. Every month we host a fundraiser workshop and donate the proceeds to deserving non-profit. In the future we plan on selling a DIY kit home subscription and bringing our DIY party class to guests homes.
