How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?
Frank helped me understand specifically what went wrong with Model Content's first federal contract attempt, which was rejected. It was incredibly hard to hear, as we'd put so much love (and so many unpaid hours) into that RFP response. But now, I feel that Model Content is much better-prepared for the next opportunity. In 2018, using the support we’ve already received from SCORE, I hope to gain our first government contract.
Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.
2017 was a big year for Model Content. We achieved certification as an economically disadvantaged woman-owned small business, we hired eight new contractors, and we almost doubled our revenue. Our biggest limitation is that Model Content is growing without accumulating debt, and the process of building capital through revenue alone is glacially slow.
Financial and technical support offered by the American Small Business Championship and the SCORE Awards would give us a much-needed boost to implement a larger promotional budget to acquire new clients, hire full-time sales and creative staff, and lease professional office space to collaborate as a team.
