Professional Dog Mom LLC
We are a customized in-home dog nanny service.
What makes your business one of the best small businesses in your community?
Professional Dog Mom is a customized in-home dog nanny service. Just like a traditional nanny we bond with the dogs in our care acting as the surrogate parent. We mimic the parents care and keep to the dogs regular routine. We diminish the impact on the dogs normal schedule, thereby minimizing the level of stress. In other words, we adjust to the dog, the dog doesn't adjust to use. We are members of NAPPS and PSI, the two largest pet professional organizations in the country which give us a strong network of other professionals and access to a plethora of resources. We are unique in that we are not a boarding or kenneling facility. All our services are one-on-one and take place in the dogs own home, their comfort zone. Our team is closely connected to the local Humane Society including a full time employee and a volunteer dog handling instructor. We are a small local team, living and working along side our clients in the community.

How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?
SCORE has kept me focused on the right things. As a perfectionist I sometimes fall into a rabbit hole finding myself spending too much time on things that don't need that much attention and failing to spend time on the things that do. My regular mentor meetings and the courses I've taken have reminded me (and continue to re-enforce) the important aspects of my business that I should be focusing on. Basically, they keep me on a solid path forward, they remind me of whats possible, and guide me towards the vision I have for my business. They are an amazing resource, I couldn't have gotten this far without them.
Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.
I started out as a sole proprietor and within 6 months I realized I needed help. They helped me design and implement employees into my business structure. They guided me through the Sole Proprietor to LLC process and continue to support me as I build my team. After being in business for less then 1.5 years, I've already got a team of 4. Thanks to my SCORE mentors, I'm able to manage payroll, design and plan individual training for my team members, and implement standard processes. My SCORE mentors have also helped me identify and set my goals, both long term and short term.
