Business Description

The Pediatric Development Center is a leading provider of occupational, speech-language and feeding therapies for children in the DC-metro area.

What makes your business one of the best small businesses in your community?

In 2017, PDC, LLC celebrated its 10th year in operation by providing services to 1155 children ages 0-18 years. With two locations and a staff of 40, families of children with developmental challenges find a partner in PDC. We believe that children learn through play and joyful engagement. At PDC, we play with our words. We play with our friends. We even play with our food. As children are playing and achieving, we connect families with other community resources through free parent workshops and free consultations with our Family Services Coordinator. The therapists at PDC know that individual professional development is valued. We encourage therapists to specialize. Children under our care are assigned to therapists who have the specific expertise that families are seeking. PDC has earned the trust of many pediatricians, dentists, orthodontists, lactation consultants, ENTs and preschool directors who refer to PDC for the care of their patients, students and family members.

The following responses will be considered in judging for a SCORE Award.

How has working with a SCORE mentor helped your business?

David has helped me visualize what I have been formulating in my head. In the next 5-10 years, The Pediatric Development Center will evolve into a multi-facility corporate practice with five-seven locations. I aspire to create leadership opportunities for therapists who are seeking development beyond the treatment room—giving therapists a chance to pursue management and supervisory roles with minimal personal risk and providing opportunities for substantial increases in compensation and connectedness to the community. I sought mentorship from SCORE to help me develop a growth plan. David has been instrumental in assisting me to define the future cooperate structure, potential challenges and possibilities.

Please describe the specific ways that your business has been successful and how it will grow in the next year.

Since opening in 2007, PDC, LLC has enjoyed positive growth every year. The philosophy of the owners has remained the same over the past 10 years, "Provide a wonderful space for children to grow. Connect with the community. Value the individual talents of all staff members." In 2013, PDC moved into our current Rockville location. Big and quiet with 4200sf, we wondered if we would ever grow into it. Over the past 5 years, PDC has grown exponentially as our method of patient care as become well respected in the community as evidenced by testimonials on Google and invitations to present at professional and family events. In June 2018, PDC is moving into a new 5800sf office which is being designed with experience based learning at its core.
