Childers Counseling Service
I provide multicultural counseling to couples, minorities, and immigrants to strengthen relationships and improve family dynamics, providing a safe environment so that clients can improve their lives.
What one unique aspect of your business will make you succeed over the next year?
Being a multicultural couples therapist is unique and will contribute to my success over the next year. Minorities, mixed race, and immigrant couples are among my clients. Traveling was my insatiable passion throughout my youth. For twelve years, Europe, Asia, and Africa were my oyster. I learned languages, dove into cultures, and assimilated as much as possible. My journeys and all that I learned during those times have proven useful as I work with my clients, especially multicultural couples, whose problems are often the result of cultural misunderstandings. It is a relief for them to become aware of each other’s differences.
Beyond the obvious cultural issues arising from differences in race, country of origin, and religion, each person comes from a family that has developed a unique culture. Values, eating habits, and household patterns are among the multitude of factors contributing to a family’s unique culture. When an individual leaves the family of origin to create a new family, two cultures blend to make a new one. As a multicultural therapist, I help couples see the impact of their own cultures on their relationships. It is a privilege to help couples find ways to improve their relationships by helping them become aware of these influences so they can live in greater harmony together.
How does your business make a positive impact on the community?
My business seeks to strengthen families, and, by extension, the larger community. Families are the foundation of society, and committed couples are the foundation of families. As a multicultural couples counselor, my business makes a positive impact on the community by helping couples find ways to communicate better, solve their problems, and strengthen their families. My business also provides premarital counseling that prepares couples for a committed relationship, reducing the risk of divorce, which can adversely affect family’s finances, household responsibilities, living arrangements, and child welfare.
What would you do with a $1,000 Sam’s Club gift card, training, and help from a SCORE mentor to grow your business?
Self-study and bibliotherapy enhance and improve my practice. (Bibliotherapy involves reading specific works to aid healing.) A Sam’s Club gift card would provide me with the means to purchase books to give to my clients, as well as to read myself to improve my skills.
SCORE training and mentoring would be particularly useful for business accounting, customer relations, and marketing. I love providing therapy and seeing my clients resolve their problems and feel more at peace. In order to do that, the business part of my practice must be secure. SCORE business training and mentoring would help me secure business fundamentals while enabling me to focus on providing therapy.
