Cakes & Desserts by Monica
Cakes & Desserts by Monica is a home-based family-owned business serving the greater New Orleans and surrounding areas.
What one unique aspect of your business will make you succeed over the next year?
One unique aspect of my business I would make succeed over the next year is to offer a variety of cake designs that would range from standard round cakes to gravity defying cakes and realistic cakes. I would also like to include party packages such as candy buffets and dessert tables. I'm looking forward to attending cake conventions so that I can learn the newest and upcoming cake trends and also to subscribe to different cake tutorial websites to learn how to create unique cake designs. In addition I would like to continue to support nonprofits, empowerment of women and children, education and the arts.
How does your business make a positive impact on the community?
Cakes & Desserts by Monica believes in supporting non-profit organizations that supports education, the arts, and empowering women and children. I have donated cupcakes to the Louisiana Children's Museum "Festival of the Trees Fundraising Event, the St. Bernard Project "Hammers to Heels" Appreciation Party, baking cakes as a sugar angel for Icing Smiles in which bakers around the world donate cakes to children and their siblings that are critically ill, and most recently I donated over 200 cupcakes to the New Orleans Pussyfooters Blush Ball FUNdraiser in which am a member and helped raise $30,000 along with 122 other pussyfooters for the Women and Children's Center of New Orleans.
What would you do with a $1,000 Sam’s Club gift card, training, and help from a SCORE mentor to grow your business?
With $1,000 I would take half and purchase business and baking supplies and the other half to purchase food to feed the homeless, with the training I would like to learn how to run a successful business, and the help from a SCORE mentor would give me one-on-one on how to write a business plan, bookkeeping, marketing, etc.
